Floral style & meaningful flowers | Poetry in flowers

discover floral style behind Poetry in Flowers - seasonal, British-inspired arrangements guided by nature, floriography and thoughtful design in Hednesford, Staffordshire.

Our floral style reflects the heart of Poetry in Flowers - a love for natural, garden-inspired arrangements rooted in seasonality, meaning and the language of flowers. Each design is thoughtfully created to feel organic and expressive, influenced by the rhythm of the seasons and a deep appreciation for British-grown blooms. This page offers a glimpse into my creative approach, showcasing a floral style that celebrates movement, texture and emotion, where every stem is chosen with intention and every arrangement tells a quiet inspired by nature.

The Language of Flowers

Floriography - the language of flowers - was most wisely spoken during the Victorian era, when emotions were often shared through carefully chosen blooms rather than spoken words. A single stem could hold meaning and a bouquet could quietly express sentiments that might otherwise remain unsaid.

A rose, long associated with love and devotion, may sit alongside sweet peas chosen for their gentle expression of gratitude and kindness. Ranunculus, with its layered petals, has traditionally symbolised radiant charm and admiration, while tulips have carried the meaning of perfect love and quiet confidence. Lillie’s have often been used to speak purity, renewal or remembrance and daises to reflect innocence, loyalty and new beginnings.

These meanings are not followed as strict rules, but rather as a subtle guide - gently influencing the way flowers are brought together, balanced and allowed to speak.

Flower of the month

Each month, I choose a flower that feels quietly significant - one that reflects the season as it unfolds, the landscape around us and the sentiments often held at that time of year.

Rather than announcing itself loudly, the Flower of the Month weaves gently through my work. It may appear subtly within bouquets, influencing colour, movement or mood and is accompanied by a small floriography card sharing its meaning.

february’s flower of the month: The tulip - a quiet promise of Spring.

The Tulip is one of Spring’s quiet promises, a bloom that feels both simple and deeply expressive. A bloom that holds it’s breath through winter and rises with the first lengthening light. Full of presence, it stands gentle, slowly unfolding as the days grow brighter.

In the language of flowers, Tulips have long been associated with perfect love, sincerity and renewal - not the grand, dramatic kind but a steady, enduring affection that grows over time.

Different colours carry their own subtle meanings: buttery yellows speak of warmth and hope, soft creams of grace and reverence, whites of purity and new beginnings and deeper tones for devotion and admiration.

Historically, Tulips travelled from the wild meadows of Central Asia into Europe, where they became symbols of beauty, rarity and cultural exchange. Today, they feel like a bridge between winter and spring. A reminder that light is returning and growth is beginning again.

Seasonal, British-led & thoughtfully chosen

I work closely with the rhythm of the seasons, using British-grown flowers wherever possible, allowing nature to lead the design.

Rather than fixed recipes, bouquets are created in response to what is freshest and most expressive at the time - garden-led, natural and gently unstructured. This approach ensures each arrangement feels honest, organic and alive.

What we create

My floral work includes a small, considered collection of bouquets designed to mark both everyday moments and life’s milestones.

From soft romantic posies to more abundant statement arrangement, each bouquet is created with intention, sensitivity and a deep respect for flowers themselves.

Every design is made in my Hednesford studio, allowing time, care and attention to guide the process.
